Honda Rain Hope - Viera No Relation - Stop Go Comeback - Track Modifications - TT 75th Anniversary…

Honda Rain Hope

Only one permanent team will campaign a Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade this year. Projecteam Honda rider Roger Maher is happy with the choice of bike: "I was a bit worried when I realised we were the only Honda this season, but the team have done quite a bit of testing over the winter and we should be on the pace. I broke my wrist over the winter so I'm a bit rusty but in the wet I've been going well."

Viera: No Relation

Team Power Bike rider Partick Viera has confirmed that he is not related to former World Endurance Champion (1989, '90 and '91) Alex Viera: "We live in the same town and are friends, so many people think we are from the same family."

Stop Go Comeback

Last year's ride-through penalty for pit-lane speeding, jump starts, etc., has been replaced with a thirty second stop-go procedure. Other rule changes include mechanics being allowed to help riders push bikes back up pitlane (provided they have not entered the track) and the pitlane speed limit bing reduced to 60km/h.

Track Modifications

The TT Circuit at Assen in now 30 metres shorter, thanks to a new second gear right/left which has been added on the entry to Stekkenwal, replacing a high-speed kink that was considered too dangerous. Yamaha Austria's Gwen Giabbani: "The new corner makes the lap a bit slower - you have to break from fifth gear to maybe third or second. The first lap of the race will be interesting."

75th Anniversary

This year is the 75th anniversary of the first running of the Dutch TT.
